This is a very powerful and compelling story of one person's struggles and triumphs with a debilitating neurological disorder called SMA. This book is easy to read, filled with humor yet very profound. The story portrays Duane's life journey over the last 40 some years: his life before SMA, when the symptoms suddenly appeared and diagnosis was made at an early age, through the period of somewhat normal life, increase in weakness and loss of muscles over time to presently being confined to bed 24/7. Yet, he beats the odds so many times and in so many ways. He accomplishes more than most able bodied people are able to accomplish. The book concludes with his present victory that consists of his life being fulfilled by the love of his son and his wife who are constantly by his side. The most impressive thing is that although Duane is someone who had struggled with weakness, falls and loss of ability to do much with his body, he spent his whole life being someone who was helping people and lifting their spirits. Find out how he did that and many other things by reading this book. His story is by far one of the most inspirational and empowering life stories I have ever read! Everyone should read this book, whether struggling with something in life or not. The wisdom and "take home" messages are something anyone can relate to. Warning - it will be hard to put it down and it does have potential to forever change how you view the world and what you can and can not do. Very, very inspiring!
